  • “School of Tomorrow Future of Europe”: High-profile student action day at BRG Eisenstadt

“School of Tomorrow Future of Europe”: High-profile student action day at BRG Eisenstadt

As part of the European Parliament’s “Democratic Engagement Multiplier” project, Europify is now initiating and accompanying this 2nd part of its cooperation with the BRG Eisenstadt/ Kurzwiese.

After digital, interactive workshops on Europe and the organization of a “Europe School Day” – including the presentation of our “Europify Philo Screen” – in spring 21, the students of 7a were motivated and empowered to plan and organize their own Europe event. According to the motto “Europe needs more young active citizens”, who shape our/their future, Europify has put its trust in the younger generation and has given them the authority and responsibility to shape the future. Yes, and lo and behold, the result is really something to be proud of!

The highly motivated and enthusiastic students – under the direction of Prof. Steiner – have really put on a beautiful, professional and high-profile event on the topic of “School of Tomorrow – Future of Europe” in an exemplary joint effort.

A “best practice” example of active European citizenship and participation of young citizens.

Thank you 7a and Prof.in Steiner for cooperating so enthusiastically with us, Europify, for our common “Future of Europe”!

  • “Europe, Democracy, Human Rights” elective module at Erich-Fried-Gymnasium Glasergasse

Europify accompanies the elective module “Europe, Democracy, Human Rights” by Prof. Eliot at the Erich Fried Gymnasium BRG9 in the winter semester 2021/22. 23 students from 3 grades are introduced to the topic by means of practical exercises, educational excursions, discussions and by docking with the reality of life.

Special focus is put on the participation of young citizens on all levels (European, regional, local). The students should be motivated and empowered to become active for Europe, democracy and human rights – in the sense of active citizenship.

  • “Learning to live together in diversity” – further training for educators in cooperation with “okay. zusammen leben” Vorarlberg, Project Office for Integration

“Learning to live together in diversity” – further training for educators in cooperation with “okay. zusammen leben” Vorarlberg, Project Office for Integration

Learn diversity and democracy skills and pass them on to children and young people so that they are equipped to face the challenges of living together in diversity.

In the 4-module practical course, 12 educators are trained as multipliers. They first acquire methodological competence in philosophical conversation (P4C) as well as application-oriented tools for professional practice. Subsequently, they are accompanied and supported for about two years in the implementation and institutionalization of the method. Finally, the effects of the pilot project with regard to diversity, conflict and democracy competence as well as the potential for learning to live together in diversity will be evaluated.

The second of a total of 4 continuing education modules of the “docken werkstatt. zusammenleben lernen” will again take place on November 5 and 6 in Dornbirn (Postgarage), Vorarlberg. After successful implementation of practical exercises and hospitations, the certificate will be awarded at the end of February 2022.

Europify was entrusted with the implementation of this pilot practical training course by “okay.zusammen leben”.

  • Successful Europify Workshop Series “Europe/ EU/ EP” & Students’ Debate on the “Future of Europe

Successful Europify Workshop Series “Europe/ EU/ EP” & Students’ Debate on the “Future of Europe

What does ‘Europe’ mean to me? – When do I feel ‘European’? – And how do I imagine the future of Europe? Innovative, participative European education, which meets young citizens at eye level in an appreciative way and really lets them have their say! – The creative-critical and innovative-visionary ideas, suggestions and contributions of the young people are discussed in self-organized events with members of the European Parliament as well as fed into the “Conference on the Future of Europe”. Europify empowers our young citizens for active European citizenship and ensures that their voices are heard.

“The future may have a past, but it actually starts now…!” is how you could sum up the motto of our “Europe” workshops, which we are holding digitally rather than on site at schools as planned. – Anyway, Corona makes you inventive, but also encourages you to think and reflect together. In other words, good teaching can make many connections to the reality of life right now.

With innovative methods and unconventional approaches, we get to the bottom of “Europe” in our interactive workshops and think critically about the “Future of Europe” together with young people (15-19). We listen to the young citizens and pass on their wishes, fears and expectations. In doing so, we want to encourage and empower them – especially in these difficult times of crisis – to become active European citizens.

The following schools are currently active in these workshops sponsored by the European Parliament: BRG Eisenstadt, HTL Traun, BHAK Weiz, GRG21 Ödenburgerstraße, BRG Weiz, GRG3 Hagenmüllergasse, GRG7 Kandlgasse, BRG Graz, GRG9 Glasergasse, HTL Wien 10 Ettenreichgasse

Thank you to all dedicated teachers and principals for your flexibility and cooperation!!!

… and in the winter semester 2021/22 we will continue with the second part, the student debates and events, and bring the ideas and perceptions of the young citizens into the “Conference on the Future of Europe”.

    Workshop: Europify

  • “Democratic Engagement Multiplier. European Parliament21” (DEM.EP21): 18-month communication project commissioned by the European Parliament.

“Democratic Engagement Multiplier. European Parliament21” (DEM.EP21): 18-month communication project commissioned by the European Parliament.

Innovative, future-oriented ‘European education’ and active ‘citizenship education’. – Europify’s creative and flexible range of workshops is in great demand among students and teachers throughout Austria.

“Democratic Engagement Multiplier EP21”, our 18-month, 2-part mediation project commissioned by the European Parliament (DG COM), is being implemented flexibly and successfully despite Covid-related limitations. Especially now, inclusive and participatory formats and workshops for the debate of the “Future of Europe” are more important than ever.

In the winter semester of 2021, our cooperating schools will continue with innovative and student-organized events with Members of the European Parliament.

The following 10 schools are actively involved in the “Democratic Engagement Multiplier EP21” project with 20 classes and around 500 young people (ages 15 to 19):

    • BHAK Weiz
    • BRG/ BORG Kurzwiese Eisenstadt
    • HTL Traun
    • BRG Kirchengasse Graz
    • BRG Weiz
    • GRG3 Hagenmüllergasse Wien
    • GRG7 Kandlgasse Wien
    • GRG9 Glasergasse Wien
    • GRG21 Ödenburgerstrasse Wien
    • HTL10 Favoriten Wien

In the spirit of empowerment for active ‘European Citizenship’, our young citizens came up with very creative proposals and ideas for the (actually their) “future of Europe” and also forwarded questions to our 19 Austrian Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) in early June. (For a list of questions see: https://europify.at/wp-content/uploads/Fragen_MEP_Schulen_Wien_Graz-2.pdf

We are all already very curious about the answers of our deputies.

To date, the following 4 MEPs have signed up:

Anyway, this exercise in ‘applied democracy’ is very enlightening for all involved.

Further (media) reports and results will follow with ongoing project implementation until early February 2022.

(The workshops, debates and activities are financed by funds from the European Union, DG COMM).
